about me

Married, two sons, one of whom is in the process of being diagnosed with Asperger's. My Asperger's is in the mild range. I do suffer from chronic depression, probably at least partially related to the difficulties of being an intelligent Aspie who is often surrounded by low IQ Neurotypicals. Don't worry, I'm not a weepy whiner. I can't stand that type. I'm in the USA (I did NOT vote for Bush) in the San Francisco Bay Area of California. I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel and watch a lot of BBC America (they censor it here, the bastidges). I read a lot, tending toward non-fiction and comic books. I like going to comic conventions. I work for a large international law firm (I'm not a lawyer) with some great, intelligent lawyers, at least a couple of whom probably are Aspies. I love it!

who and what

Other people who look on their intelligence and Aspieness as gifts and not drawbacks. Maybe we can take over the world. We couldn't do a worse job.

About

I have always suspected that I was diferent and never quite have felt a part of the normal scene. Since birth I´ve fought the label of "seroius recluse/ introvert" to the extent & comparable to the nature of a modern-day J.D. Salinger. Me & my inner world. Me & my books. Me humming & dancing along to the beat of my very own tambourine man. Who would have guessed after all these years trying to reinvent the wheel, I´d alas join a group named the square circle. Home, at last.

Who

I want to participate & contribute. Simply put, I want to find out more. Your "diversity" concept intrigues me; I wish to keep up with new perspectives that may eventually shed light on my own case as well as add to the melting pot. Thanks!!

About

I like carnivorous plants, freshwater sponges and crustaceans. I can't spell very well, but I've gotten a lot better the last couple years. I have a 200 gallon pond. I'm 25 in a long term relationship for six years, going on seven. I suppose most people would call me goth. Subcultures have fractured to far for me to know what that means. I live in the United States, in Iowa. I sometimes get very naked outside.

Who

I don't know that I want to contact anyone, really, but I'm starting to feel like I need to talk to someone like me. None of the friends I told understand, and a lot of the important ones don't even believe me.

About

I am a pro-active neurodiverse disabled people's human and civil rights campaigner, educator and researcher in the U.K. and advisor on ASD's and SpLd's within the United Nations. I am a 'pro-active' member of the disabled people's movement and believe in 'self-advocacy' and neurodiverse having their own voices and to feel empowered. I am totally against any frorm of behavioural modification therapise that reinforces neurodiversity has being 'abnormal'. I have been speaking-out' as disabled human rights activist for years in which brings me to the attention of the oppressive authorities, in which I experience victimisation and bully and abusive and discriminitory behaviour, especaill from my local public authorities where I live in the East Riding of Yorkshire. I hate using my keyboard so i won't say too much more. I have been diagnosed with AS with dyspraxia, ADHD, Dyslexia and Irlen Syndrome. I am a good friend of Paul Shattock, Autism Research Unit, University of Sunderland

Who

Non discriminitory attitudes and behaviour and a feeling of 'inclusiveness' and an 'acceptance' of my 'neurodiversity'. Most of all 'neurodiverse-empathy' and 'tolerance' from people who 'actively-listen' and understand my difficulties and abuse and discrimination that I experience within this 'neurotypical' world.

About

Here is the beginning, and I realize I ought to write something that people would want to read. Want is fickle, but my flippancy comes from being confounded. I think it's my awkwardnesful circumlocution, irritatingly instinctive pedantry that most stands out as leading me to suspect I would be classified in the autistic spectrum. I have family who are autistic. My foolishness of course surfaces most saliently in times of stress. Realizing the depths of one's own dissaray is a vile thing. I'd rather not do it, and have been pretty effective at cutting out my self-awareness, much to the expense of much. Excessive editing leaves most of my work condensed into incoherent arrays of purified digression. Without the interplay of page and mind, the recombination necessary for creativity is hamstrung. I try to explain which tends to spiral out of control as I forget what I was talking about by which time most people have also forgotten. Sorry.

Who

Briefly, I wish to develop an overall strategy for the philosophical defense of losers. Understanding interactions between various ways of talking about the mind. Coming to grips with their limitations and origins in folk-psychology. I want to be contacted by somebody who wove where I used scotch tape. Alleviation of ennui in cases where it strikes.

About

I am a 26 year old with Asperger Syndrome. I am from Derbyshire, but am currently living in Oxford. I did a Computer Science degree in Manchester a few years ago, where I did extremely well. After that I went to do an MSc in Edinburgh. At that point I became quite depressed as I had not yet been diagnosed and did not know what the problem was. I dropped out of my course and did temping jobs for a while, and was also unemployed for a while. I eventually got diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome in December 2001, and Prospects managed to get me a job in Oxford as a computer programmer. I found this quite stressful, as I am extremely impractical, even with computers despite having a Computer Science degree. Unfortunately I have just been made redundant, and now have to go through the process of finding employment again, and explaining to potential employers what Asperger Syndrome is and why I have an enormous gap on my CV.

Who

I have never actually met anyone else who has been diagnosed as having Asperger Syndrome, despite being diagnosed just over two years ago. I would be happy to hear from anyone else with Asperger Syndrome, especially people in their 20s.

About

I was disagnosed with Asperger's while recieving treatment for depression at the age of 30. I have demonstrated symptoms of AS throughout my life, and while being diagnosed as AS didn't autmoatically fix years of confusion and pain, it did give me a few more tools in becoming self-aware and more confident about my own person. While I've come a long way on my own, I still struggle with depression, anger, social isolation and improving social skills (and maintaining them -- I've found that I can quickly lose skills I've learned without continual practice!). My interests are mainly creative and abstract in nature: music, literature, writing, philosophy and theology. I find it easiest to communicate with others through discussing shared interests or other cerebral or logic-based topics, and I enjoy learning and contiuning education.

Who

I will gladly correspond with anyone who wishing to contact me about being AS (other AS people or people with AS children who who like some personal insights about growing up with AS, although I was not diagnosed with AS until an adult. I work with AS children at my elementery school, and have find I can readily identify with many of their difficulties and can hope articulate them on their behalf), or with any other AS person who simply would like to talk with someone whith common interests and experience.

About

As a young child, I struggled with Asperger's Syndrome all my life. I've looked over the diagnosis and I can say that I've experienced a lot of those symptoms. At school, I couldn't get along with anyone. I didn't seem to know how. The few friends I did make were usually somewhat eccentric people like myself, and I never kept any of them. I would always get picked on, I'd throw fits all the time, I had trouble communicating, I stuck fast to routines, oh, yeah. I was a complete mess. I was a good-natured person, but somehow I couldn't translate that into kind actions and words. And it didn't help that everyone around me was always so mean to me. The worst part was that we all knew something was wrong with me, but none of the psychiatrists my family visited seemed to be able to help me. I was finally diagnosed with the syndrome at age, um...9 or 10 or something. By then, it had come to the point when I had just given up on myself. I figured that I was no good, I would spend the rest of my life alone a complete loser, and that would be that. I couldn't accept myself as a person. I thought I was too different. The thing I wanted the most was just to be like everyone else, but I was trapped by my disabilities. I was smart. I knew I had the intelligence to succeed, and I would learn everything I needed to know to survive in life on my own. I was digging my own grave with that mentality. However, when I was in 8th grade, I happened to meet someone. I won't mention her name out of consideration, but she was very special to me. She was the first true friend I ever had. It just amazed me, how nice she was to me, how she was always there for me, how I could talk to her about anything...I had never experienced these kinds of things before. She believed in me when I didn't even believe in myself. Thanks to her, I began to learn how to be a good friend, how to communicate, and how to do something I had never been able to do before, and that was accept myself for who I was. It's been a long time since then, and ever since I met her, I've never been the same. I've overcome just about every disability I've had, thanks to meeting her and a lot of other things that have happened. Hm. I didn't really tell you a little bit about myself, did I? Sorry.

Who

I want to contact anyone who will listen to me. It is my hope that through my experience, I'll be able to encourage others who are suffering just like I was.
